Technical Speaker

Speaker: Jeremy Pasatta, VP of Technology and Processing at Advanced Polymer Coatings

    • Bio: Jeremy received his Bachelor of Science in Polymer Chemistry from Rochester Institute of Technology in 2000 and has completed graduate studies in Biochemistry at University of Texas, Austin and Polymer Science at University of Akron.  He has held positions at Eastman Kodak, Lexmark International, CVC Thermoset Specialties, Valtris and Huntsman Corporation, focusing on new product development and scale up, manufacturing support and optimization, technical services as well as sales and marketing support.  Currently, Jeremy is VP of Technology and Process at Advanced Polymer Coatings in Avon, OH.  Jeremy holds several patents related to tougheners for thermosets and new coating technology and has presented at numerous domestic and international conferences.  Jeremy is also the immediate past president of the Thermoset Resin Formulator’s Association (TRFA).

Next Level Epoxy Coatings:  How to estimate and fine-tune crosslink density for the optimum performance.

    • Talk Abstract: For use in demanding industrial and marine applications, epoxy and thermoset coatings need to have extremely high chemical and thermal resistance along with high mechanical properties.  One way to achieve these properties is to maximize the crosslink density of the coating.  This presentation will review the fundamental concepts of crosslink density along with how to calculate and measure this critical property.  A detailed case study will show how slight variations in molecular geometry can have an impact on final coating properties by affecting the crosslink density.

Commercial Talk

Speaker: Dan Weinmann, Market Development & Technical Services Manager at Westlake Epoxy Inc.

  • Bio: Dan Weinmann earned his B. S. in Chemistry from the University of Oklahoma and his Ph.D. from the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks. Since joining the epoxy resins business, Dr. Weinmann has worked in a variety of technical and market development roles with focus on support to the coatings, construction, and adhesives industry. Dan’s current role is the Americas market development and technical services manager for Westlake Epoxy. Dan Weinmann is the coauthor of two U.S. patents. He has published numerous technical articles and has presented papers on high solids, solvent-free and waterborne epoxy technology to industry groups around the world

Epoxy Systems for Enhanced Protective and Marine Coatings

  • Talk Abstract: Westlake Epoxy is a domestic manufacturer of epoxy resins, curing agents, and reactive modifiers (diluents) which is important in today’s interconnected world. Epoxy systems provide superior adhesion, chemical, thermal, and corrosion resistance, making them ideal for protective and marine coatings. To achieve higher performance, multifunctional epoxy resins, higher-performance reactive diluents, and specialty curing agents are available that increase the crosslink density of the cured epoxy coating. This presentation will describe several epoxy resins and curing agents used in protective coatings and introduce novel epoxy systems that bring higher-performance properties to the final coating formulation.
